September 28, 2005 Minutes of the Board of Director’s Meeting, Unit 215, South Alabama Bridge Assn. CALL TO ORDER President Phyllis Haydel called the meeting to order at 2:08 p.m. Present were Phyllis, Barbara Slaughter, Martha Steele, Jane Mahoney, Betty Strickland, Ed Stephens, Margaret Miller, and Howard Deck. Guest: Bill Cook, District 10 Director. Absent: Sue Hanlein Phyllis suggested that we let Bill Cook present his report first. There were no objections. Bill asked if there was anything we wanted him to pursue on our behalf. Various things were discussed: Phyllis reported that she had had good communications with the District; Bill distributed a report of the highlights of the Atlanta ACBL Board Meeting; Barbara asked about the $110 surcharge we paid; what is that for? Ed brought up redrawing district boundaries. And teaching programs were discussed. Bill mentioned that there were matching funds available for teachers from the district and ACBL. MINUTES & TREASURER’S REPORT Martha moved and Jane seconded to dispense with the reading of the minutes of July 27, 2005, and dispense with a full Treasurer’s report. Motion carried. MEMBERSHIP REPORT No Report. OLD BUSINESS Fall Regional Tournament Report: Barbara reported that room reservations were good. Her numbers were a week old, but they have met the expectations of the Hotel. Howard moved and Barbara seconded that the club pay for Phyllis’ room. Motion carried. Sunday Swiss Teams: Sign up sheet for interest postponed until after the tournament. Nominating Committee: Jane will chair this year’s committee. Howard McDonald and Martha Steele will serve with her; she is still looking for two more members. A full slate of officers may not be needed for next year, as officers are elected to serve for two years. NEW BUSINESS New damages from Hurricane Katrina. The fence needs repair; it is not covered by insurance. Barbara will look into it. The awning needs some repair; Howard will fix that for us. And, there is an erosion problem at the end of the building. Martha will look into finding a contact person to help with this problem. Donation to area clubs damaged by storm.
