December 11. 2004 Annual Membership and Election Meeting, Unit 215, South Alabama Bridge Association CALL TO ORDER President Ed Stephens called the meeting to order at 12:30 PM. There were 57 members present including the following Board members: Phyllis Haydel, Jane Mahoney, Anna Rominger, Jackie Watson, Fran Krizman and Edith Sandifer. Absent was Rhoda Herzog. Charles Brown has resigned since he has moved from this area. Minutes from the December 13, 2003 meeting were approved as read. TREASURER’S REPORT Jane reported a balance in the checking account on 11/30/04 of $8,961.01, and on 11/9/03 $23.893.65 in the Building Fund. The report was unanimously approved. MEMBERSHIP REPORT Ed reported the present membership stands at 240, down from 261 last year. TOURNAMENT REPORT Phyllis said the two Sectionals (Gulf Shores in January and Senior Center in October) were successful, as well as the special games held at the Club during the year. (See attached report) OLD BUSINESS No old business reported. NEW BUSINESS Saturday Unit Championship Games. As noted in November, these games will be considered a party, and will be stratified. Discussion arose regarding honoring members as they achieve new levels. Christie moved we designate this first Saturday event to honor such players as they become Life Masters, as well as Bronze, Silver, and Gold Status. Jane seconded and motion carried. Hurricane Damage. A check from the Insurance Company for $4,984.00 has been received. Contracts are in place for gutter repair/replacement and canopy replacement. Ed reports we have need for an outside maintenance man and is open to suggestions. The need for improvements inside and outside the Building was addressed. A committee chaired by Fran Krizman has been formed to oversee this activity. It was pointed out that any costs over $2,000.00 must be approved by the membership. ELECTION OF OFFICERS The nominating committed presented the slate as follows: President-Phyllis Haydel, Vice President - Barbara Slaughter, Treasurer - Jane Mahoney, Secretary - Margaret Miller, Membership - Rhoda Herzog, Ex-Officio - Ed Stephens, Members at Large-Betty Strickland, Sue Hanlein, and Martha Steele. There being no nominations from the floor, Fran moved we accept the slate, Jean Fry seconded. Motion carried. On behalf of all members, Ed thanked our Directors for their untiring efforts and contribution to the Unit. Marge Harrison, Dorothy Otto, Martha Steele, Edith Sandifer, Nan Watson and Howard MacDonald in Mobile, Phyllis and Ernest Haydel in Mobile and Daphne, Tom Kirspel in Daphne, Lenore Ninis, Art and Evelyn Meyers, and Dorothy Otto in Fairhope, and Jim and Sandy Roberts in Gulf Shores. Heartfelt thanks were also extended to the following volunteers: Building Manager – Bill Barton and Cherokee White Club Manager – Christie Sellers District 10 Representative - Howard MacDonald Web Site Manager – Phil Purpura Decorations – Nancy Hora Monthly Reports – Joe Brandt Thanks were also extended to all the present Board Members for a job well done.
